Pedodontics
This is also known as children’s dentistry. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a dental check-up at least twice a year for children. Some children may need more frequent dental visits because of increased risk of tooth decay, unusual growth patterns or poor oral hygiene. Children need to begin dental visits by 5 years of age to insure that their first visits are pleasant. Their visits are for oral exams to evaluate for the presence of tooth decay, instructions in brushing techniques, cleaning and polishing the teeth, monitoring teeth as they emerge in the mouth, and identifying orthodontic problems.
